I met this month’s guest via her wonderful website for ‘Optimistic and ProActive Seniors’ or Oapschat. Of course, when I say met, I mean on the internet. Like many of the people I talk to online, Janice Rosser and I have never met – so far. I’m hoping we can change that in the near future, especially after hearing the answers to her questions and seeing how much we have in common.
Hello Janice, and thanks for dropping by. Let’s start by taking you back to your childhood. What was your favourite subject at school — and which was the lesson you always wanted to avoid?
I didn’t really like school at all. It involved a 20 mile bus journey each way and was a long day; 7:45am to 5pm. I really liked English Literature and have always enjoyed reading from a young age. I remember being tested on Under Milk Wood and obtaining 90{ca225c2aedd0a3230fdf18169b52e0cd27b098bc7f89404059909f89450e2217}. I HATED games of any sort and would do anything to get out of a lesson. Usually forgetting my kit on purpose and ending up having ‘lines!’
Talking about yourself, how would you finish the sentence “not a lot of people know…”?
…that I am a chart addict! From recording the Top Twenty every week when I was young, to looking at Amazon statistics and now, of course, my own website statistics. Everything is written down and scrutinised!
If you could change one law, what would it be?
Reversing pub and club opening hours. Nobody should be made to work in these establishments after midnight.
If you were a car, what type would you be — and why?
I would be a Mini Cooper. Fast, fun and frivolous. Just like me!
What would be in your ‘Room 101’?
Giant house spiders. I know that is an impossible choice and there is no logic in being scared of these spiders, but I have been since a small child and still am!
Watch a film, go to the theatre, read a book or talk to friends — which would you prefer?
Talk to friends. I don’t see a lot of my friends very much these days, so when I do, we have a lot to catch up on and good friends are worth their weight in gold.
If you could take part in one television programme, which one would it be?
Jools Holland He always has great eclectic music and as fan of many types of music, I would love to be in the audience.
How do you relax?
I am not able to ‘switch off’ very easily, but I do enjoy a glass or three of red wine and listening to my musical hero, Ralph McTell; even better if I am watching him on stage at a theatre!
If you had to escape from a fire, what three things would you take with you?
My favourite family photo album, my guitar and my laptop!
What has been your greatest achievement to date?
Setting up my own website at age 58 and realising that it is never too late to achieve a goal. Mine is to be in the top 5,000 websites in the UK. Today (12/9/16) I am ranked 11,688.
