My guest this month has two distinct sides to her writerly life. As a legal directories specialist and professional copywriter and editor, her clients include national, City, international and offshore law firms, barristers’ chambers and communications agencies, in jurisdictions including the UK, Europe, Africa, the US, Asia, Australia and the Middle East. But she is also a published novelist and performed playwright whose work has appeared in magazines as diverse as Woman’s Weekly, Sky, Cutting Teeth, Pulp Net, Printer’s Devil, Yours and Your Cat. She and I ‘met’ via Book Connectors, a vibrant Facebook Group where Bloggers, Authors and small Publishers connect to share their news.
So I am delighted that Tracey Sinclair has found the time to come and chat today.
Hello Tracey and welcome to my blog. Let’s start by taking you back to childhood. What was your favourite subject at school — and which was the lesson you always wanted to avoid?
Unsurprisingly perhaps, English – and like most bookish kids, I hated PE!
Where is your favourite place on earth — and why?
That’s a tough one. I love most of the cities I have lived in for different reasons – Newcastle and Glasgow both feel like home, I love the vibrancy of London, and where I am now I live by the sea, which is gorgeous. Other than that, I always feel reenergised by New York.
How do you relax?
Hanging out with friends, or reading or watching TV. I like simple pleasures!
If you knew you only had 24 hours left, how would you spend them?
In a fantasy scenario, drinking cocktails on a beach with friends. In real life, probably throwing out all my notebooks, clearing my browser history then getting very drunk.
Describe your ideal menu — and where would you like to eat it?
I love Indian and Italian food, so somewhere cosy and nice that serves good food would make me happy! It’s all about the company, anyway.
What would be in your ‘Room 101’?
Racists and bigots and people who vote for them.
If you could meet one person from history, who would it be — and why?
I realise she’d probably have me executed for saying the wrong thing, but it would be fascinating to meet Elizabeth I.
Watch a film, go to the theatre, read a book or talk to friends — which would you prefer?
Depends on my mood: I enjoy all of those things! I review theatre shows, so am lucky to see a lot of them – there’s something about a live show you can’t beat – but they all have their place.
If you could take part in one television programme, which one would it be?
I’m a huge Supernatural fan, so would love to be in that. Except I’d probably be so star-struck I’d gibber like a fool!
What’s your motto?
Live, laugh, write, nap – repeat.
