Blog

At the December meeting of Chudleigh Writers’ Circle, our guest speaker, Katherine Bolton, challenged us to buy an extra diary and keep it just for our writing deadlines and goals. She also urged us to make our goals Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Related; in other words SMART. As someone who has more To Do lists and spreadsheets than most, I won’t be taking her up on the first suggestion, but I’m certainly going to have a go at the second.

In 2015, I will…

Write and publish the third ebook in the Business of Writing series by the end of January;

Combine the three ebooks and publish them as a paperback via Create Space by the end of February;

Complete the first draft of novel #2 by the end of March;

Have fifty submissions on my ‘out there’ list by the middle of August (this will obviously need to be broken down to a monthly target, but I won’t bore you with that):

Publish novel #2 before the end of October;

And…keep up  my weekly blog throughout the year, including an occasional update on the progress of the objectives. Just to make sure the cartoon doesn’t become a fact!

Now, what are you proposing to do in the coming months?

To everyone who’s read and commented on my blog posts during the past twelve months, I wish a Happy, Peaceful and Successful New Year. I’ll see you on the other side.

    Oh there is so much that I am hoping to do in 2015, but the biggest of them is to find work closer to home. From there, focus on m photography by completing a 365 photo project and getting to make monthly meetings of our local photography club. By the end of summer, I hope to have a crated and etsy shop up and running to support that work,.

  1. Love the structured plan, Trying to make sense of my 2014 writing before I make any 2015 plans. Although, I have a vague plan to edit my short stories set fpr beta reading, revise one novel, and keep outlining a new one. But, don't ask me when.

  2. By coincidence, I've just spent a morning drawing up my goals for 2015. Formatting 'Blood and Chocolate' for Createspace is one of mine too. As I mentioned on a post on my Facebook author page, I think I might have to change my goals to pipedreams still it helps to have something to work towards.

  3. Sounds like a good, balanced plan, Jen; I wish you luck with it. The 365 photo project sounds interesting.

  4. I'm a project manager, Roland, so everything is structured. I just have to remember to spend time fulfilling the plans rather than just writing them.

  5. I guess there will be a lot of us doing that over the next few days, Judith. You're right – with something to work towards, we tend to achieve more, even if we don't hit all the targets.
